Our commitment
Toddler Games is committed to making our website and games accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA.
What works well
- Website navigation: The website (landing page, blog, help, legal pages) is fully keyboard-navigable with visible focus indicators on all controls.
- Screen reader support (website): We use semantic HTML, ARIA labels, and meaningful alt text across the website. Decorative elements are hidden from assistive technology.
- Reduced motion: We respect the
prefers-reduced-motionsystem setting. All animations are disabled automatically when this preference is active. You can also toggle this manually using our accessibility panel. - Colour contrast: Our colour palette meets WCAG AA contrast ratios. A high-contrast mode is available through the accessibility panel for users who need stronger contrast.
- Resizable text: The accessibility panel provides font size options (default, large, extra large). The layout adapts to larger text without loss of content.
- Touch targets: All interactive elements in our games and website maintain a minimum 48x48 pixel touch target, meeting WCAG 2.5.8 requirements.
- No flashing content: Our games and website contain no flashing or strobing effects.
- Game state announcements: All nine games include an ARIA live region that announces game state changes to assistive technology.
Accessibility panel
A floating accessibility button is available on every page (bottom-left corner). It provides controls to:
- Increase font size
- Enable high-contrast mode
- Reduce or disable animations
- Pause between game steps (manual advance) so the game waits for you instead of moving on automatically
- Set an input cool-down (0.25s, 0.5s, or 1s) to prevent accidental repeated taps
Your preferences are saved in your browser and applied automatically on future visits.
Standards
We aim to meet the following standards:
- WCAG 2.2 Level AA
- UK Equality Act 2010 (accessibility of services to the public)
- EN 301 549 (European accessibility standard for ICT products and services)
Known limitations
Our nine games currently require pointer input (tapping and dragging on a touchscreen or with a mouse). This means:
- Keyboard-only users: In-game interactions (adding toppings, dragging items, tapping to advance) cannot yet be completed with a keyboard alone. Website pages are fully keyboard-accessible.
- Screen reader users: Game step transitions are announced via ARIA live regions, but individual interactive elements within steps do not yet have full screen reader descriptions or keyboard activation.
- Switch access users: Games do not yet support switch control devices. The manual advance and input cool-down settings in the accessibility panel can help with pacing.
What we are working on
We are actively working on keyboard and assistive technology support for all nine games. Planned improvements include:
- Keyboard alternatives for all in-game interactions (Space/Enter to activate, arrow keys to navigate)
- Focus management on step transitions so keyboard and screen reader users always know where they are
- Visible focus indicators on all game interactive elements
- Non-drag alternatives for all drag-based interactions (WCAG 2.5.7)
The infrastructure for these features is in place. If you have specific access needs, please get in touch so we can prioritise what matters most.
Report an issue
If you experience any difficulty using Toddler Games, we want to hear about it. Please use our contact form to describe the issue, including the device and assistive technology you are using. We aim to respond within five working days.
